The question has probably entered everyone’s mind at least once: How important is my smile in determining how other people perceive me? How important is it in determining how I perceive myself? According a recent infographic released by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD), if you’ve ever wondered about the social impact of your pearly whites, you are not alone.
The AACD’s survey finds that:
- Your smile creates an immediate, subconscious, visual impact on the people you meet.
- Three-quarters (74%) of adults feel an unattractive smile can hurt a person’s chance for career success.
- Virtually all adults (99.7%) believe a smile is an important social asset and 96% of adults believe an attractive smile makes a person more appealing to members of the opposite sex.
- When respondents were asked, “What would you like to improve most about your smile?” the most common response was: I’d like to have whiter and brighter teeth.
